I would be throwing a topwater lure during this time, up until about 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning. Keep a topwater buzzbait, popper, spook, or propbait rigged up, and a plastic worm, or jig and pig to followup on missed strikes.
During midday in the summer, freshwater fishing gets a little more difficult. It isn’t impossible, you just have to know where to look. The biggest places I target during the summer when the sun is high, are boat docks, and creek channels or deep holes. The fish will seek shady areas, usually where the wind is pushing algae and plankton for shad and other baitfish to feed on. Throw a fat worm at em, usually a senko will work. If they don’t like weightless, rig it wacky.
During dusk, or right before the sun sets is kind of a difficult time to catch fish. It is usually best to wait until your eyes adjust to the dark, as this is a good sign that fishes eyes have adjusted as well. When the sun sets, use big thumping spinnerbaits, and 10″ fat black worms. Black, with a touch of chartreuse will make them commit at night.
